Getting into a division one school to play sports can be a very challenging thing, because you have to be very good at the sport you play.
However, getting into a division one school to play sports is also very exciting because it is the big leagues for college.
Jade Rogers, sr., has committed to Iowa to play basketball for the Iowa women’s basketball team. “I decided to go to Iowa because they had my major and it is close to home,” Rogers said. Rogers had other offers before she decided to go to Iowa but Rogers went to all of the Iowa Women’s basketball camps and they came to some of her games and Rogers has always been a Iowa fan.
“I have wanted to play basketball at a division one school ever since I has started playing basketball,” Rogers said. It has been a dream of hers to go play basketball at a division one school, but now it is reality that she is actually going to be playing basketball at Iowa.
Rogers’s other main consideration for colleges was Michigan State, but Rogers decided not to go there because of the distance away from home.
Erik Boyer, sr., will also get the opportunity of playing division one sports. Next year he will be playing soccer for Drake University. He decided to go there because they have a good business program, and Drake also has a good soccer team.
Boyer thinks that the recruiting process to get into a division one school is very long, and because Boyer had to contact the coaches to come watch him play soccer before the coaches could recruit Boyer.
“I have wanted to play soccer at a division one school since I was eleven years old,” Boyer said.
Boyer was also considering Wisconsin, Valparaiso, Butler, and a few other division one schools. “I chose Drake because they have a very good business program and education comes first and soccer comes second.” However Boyer is happy that it turns out that Drake has a very good soccer team and Drake finished in the Elite Eight last year in soccer.
Boyer starts his practice with Drake August 14th and he is very excited about the upcoming season. He isn’t nervous about playing for Drake. Boyer has had to work very hard to get to this point in soccer and Boyer did it by putting in extra practice even when he didn’t have soccer practice.
